I learned about Makeshift Society when it opened about a year ago in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley–and I was thrilled to be able to visit them on my trip to San Francisco last week. The Makeshift Society is the genius of Rena Tom, who founded what is essentially a clubhouse for creative entrepreneurs who want to have access to a community of other independent workers to share ideas, feedback, and make meaningful connections. Rena is a strategist and designer, as well as business owner and incredible talent, who has partnered with the likes of Victoria Smith (of sfgirlbybay—one of my all time favorite blogs!) and amazing creative director and branding guru, Suzanne Shade, to round out her team.
THE MISSION “Makeshift Society is an organization that fosters creativity, collaboration and community through a co-working space/clubhouse, innovative programming, and support for freelancers and small business owners. We want to enable everyone to make, learn, teach, and think.” (more…) →
I just got back from a great visit to San Francisco, where my sister was running the Nike Women’s Marathon. It was an amazing whirlwind trip, and I am going to be sharing some of it over the next few weeks. To start, I was totally thrilled to come upon the gorgeous murals concentrated in the Mission neighborhood, and many others tucked around the city.
Clarion Alley is where you can find many more contemporary murals, and is said to be home of work by the New Mission School. There was a guy working on his mural and lots of people gathered around to watch him. while artists wandered by looking for a place to make their mark. (more…) →
There are ladybugs flying around the studio today, and they are so darn cute! These are our newest hair treats for girls, and they make me want to wear pigtails and barrettes again!
This week’s post is brief because I am getting ready to go to San Francisco to see my sister run theNike Women’s Marathon for Leukemia & Lymphoma. I am also going to visit my dear friend from elementary school, whom I have not seen since my wedding! I am so excited to explore this incredible west coast jewel! (more…) →
As we gear up for our holiday shows, I am previewing some of my favorite collections at Cheeky Monkey Home. This is our joyful Land Ho’ collection, featuring Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Cape Cod on both pillows and stacking floor cushions.

I love nautical color combinations, and I think pretty much anything paired with navy blue and white looks striking. Our new 2014 collection will feature some beautiful blue and white designs that I am very excited about sharing with you! Here are a few more of our nautical designs that group nicely together or on their own. (more…) →
I just finished a really fun mural for a little girl named Nitty, who has a great collection of very special stuffed animals, and a very big heart.
Nitty selected her favorite stuffed animals (and her dog) to be featured among floating hearts and polkadots. She actually drew up an awesome vision for the mural herself, and gave me a list of the animals to be included. Her mom wanted the mural to capture the sweet, loving personality of her daughter using fresh, happy colors. (more…) →
