This week I had the pleasure of painting “part two” of a fairy mural for a special little girl. Three years ago I painted two fairies in baby Ella’s cozy little room, and when it was time for her “big girl room”, she needed a few more!
Ella’s bed will be framed by the fairy with bows (above), and the second fairy greets you as you walk in the door! I wish I could show you the whole room installed—she is getting Samantha bedding by Pottery Barn that will look amazing! I used a polkadot ribbon border around the entire room to tie things together. Believe it or not, the border took as long as the fairies!
One of my favorite makers from the Brooklyn Renegade Craft Fairlast weekend is Becky of Dirtsa Studios. Becky uses her love for academics and incredible creativity to make some really fun pillows and accessories for the home, and beyond.

I love Dirtsa Studio’s science diagram pillows, that are made with felt applique in beautiful colors that are appealing for their unique subject matter as much as their design. I can think of a few doctors, nurses and teachers who would love these, not to mention some science-loving kids!
I had the chance to paint this Fenway Park mural in a nine year old boy’s bedroom last week. I have painted many Fenway Park murals in my time, but especially loved doing this one because he was so interested in watching me paint and giving me ideas! We also had fun finding ways to include family details in the mural—the billboards and the Jumbotron are perfect places to add personal touches. (more…) →
Some of my best designs come from a request for a custom pillow—when a client loves a Cheeky Monkey design, but want to change the color or composition slightly to fit their decor needs. This summer I had two requests for our elephant designs in turquoise, and I was excited to try them out!
